World Circus Day

Juhudi Urban Arts Centre is thrilled to be representing Kenya as part of World Circus Day! These young people you see performing here are from poor parts of Kenya. But when they learn circus skills, they join a rich tradition of circus arts.

Being in the circus makes these children part of an international community! Circus is an art form that connects people from around the world.  In fact, circus connects these children TO the world.  Not only does circus give them the opportunity to perform at events like this, circus can be their ticket to work anywhere in the world.

While they are learning the discipline of circus, they also gain the dignity of being a performer and they still get to have the fun of being children. We hope by showing how they support each other and defy gravity, these children can inspire others to work together and do the seemingly impossible.

In honor of World Circus Day, the children of Juhudi Urban Arts salute the work of the United Nations to maintain peace and security, to develop friendly relations among nations and to promote social progress, better living standards and human rights.

Happy World Circus Day!

Carta de uno de los acrobatas fundadores del proyecto/ letter of one the acrobats of the creation of this project

ShowSite and ConMuchoArte want to help a group of artists from Kenya to build a circus school for children in Nairobi.

We believe that circus can provide a better life and future for the children in this area. Thanks to the training, they can develop a set of skills and values that will form them not only professional but also personal.

Unfortunately, the scarcity of resources and the lack of economic investment prevent them from having a school in conditions. So ConMuchoArte and ShowSite have decided to help them.

From here we appeal to all those willing and able to help us in this task. We will try to assemble as much material as possible: from a simple ball to a circus tent, through juggling, skipping ropes, trapezes... Anything can be used to help build a school that will open new doors to the future of these children. What to us may be old and useless, will surely be very useful for this group of artists that with every effort is trying to build a large project from nothing.

Another way to help us, for those who do not have material to offer, is spreading the word. In our Blog escueladecircoparanairobi.blogspot.com we will post all news around this project. We invite you to visit the blog and leave your comments.

Those interested in helping can contact us through: escueladecirconairobi@gmail.com

Let’s build together a circus school for Nairobi!

This project also contemplates a visit by ConMuchoArte and ShowSite with some of our artist companies, to Nairobi. We want to bring messages of hope, support and smiles to families with no means of support in cultural disadvantaged areas.

The idea is to use the circus with an education and social purpose. Give young people of the area an open space full of magic and fun that encourages self-worth and sense of humor and help them staying away from the risk of the streets. During our stay, we will offer various circus workshops and free performances throughout the community.
